Vignettes for Austria

Austrian vignettes are mandatory documents to have for using the Austrian motorways and expressways. Vignettes serve as payment proof of the obligatory road tax that’s mandatory to cover before using the Austrian highways.

The vignette comes in a sticker or digital form and is available for different validity periods ranging from 10 days up to a full year.

Since 2018, anyone using the Austrian motorways and expressways can obtain their toll sticker in an electronic form. A digital toll sticker is easily available online and after issuing is directly connected with one’s vehicle’s registration number.

Digital vignettes eliminate the need to apply the physical sticker to one’s vehicle, which is beneficial since you won’t have to deal with removing it after it loses validity. Moreover, applying for a digital vignette using our services eliminates the 18-day waiting period, making your vignette valid immediately after issuing!

Vignette control in Austria

Austrian service and control workers can check the validity of digital vignettes randomly. Moreover, there are around twenty cameras that control the passing vehicles and check their registration plates for valid vignettes. The cameras frequently change their spot to check different routes.

Not having a valid vignette appropriate to one’s vehicle and route taken results in receiving an immediate fine that currently amounts to 120 Euro.

Why are vignettes mandatory?

Tax money received from vignettes helps Austrian authorities in maintaining the road system in the country. Especially when it comes to high-maintenance areas that require higher fees from its users.

Routes that are a bit more expensive to use in Austria include mostly tunnels, bridges, or mountain passes.
